11 Jul Harry Summers and Leanne Pompeani Win Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k
In clear sparkling conditions Commonwealth Games representative, Harry Summers won the fifth Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k in 29:35 ahead of fellow competitor, Jack Rayner who finished in second place in 29:49. Third place was taken out by Jordan Gusman in 29:54.
Leanne Pompeani led the women’s field in 34:19, followed by Nat Archer in 34:46 and third place went to Lauren Hamilton in 36:17.
The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 5k men’s field was taken out by Brandon Nairn in 17:06 and 15-year-old Kiahnae Wilson won the women’s field in 19:07.
More than 5000 runners registered for the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k. Starting at the historic Sydney Rocks, the 10k course was a one lap loop which hugged the harbour foreshore travelling along Hickson Rd, through Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour, through the stunning Barangaroo parklands and back into The Rocks to the finish line at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.
The 5K course also took in some of Sydney’s most beautiful sights. The course started at George Street, the Rocks, continued around the edge of Sydney Harbour, under the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge before an out and back section along Hickson Road and back into The Rocks to the finish line at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.
2016 Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k Men’s winner Harry Summers says it was a great race.
“I lead the race from start to finish which was tough because I knew it was a really strong field and there were some quicker sprinters behind me,” said Summers.
“But the beautiful scenery lifted me up and I managed to pick up my pace towards the end.”
2016 Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k Women’s winner Leanne Pompeani was delighted with her race.
“I had a really solid race, in perfect conditions and I am thrilled with my second PB in two weeks,” said Pompeani.
Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k Event Director Wayne Larden said the event has gone extremely well in clear, sunny conditions.
“It is great to see such strong elite field battle it out on this flat and fast course,” said Larden.
“We are thrilled that Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k event has become embedded in the running calendar and continues to attract runners from Sydney, interstate and overseas.
“The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 5k continues to grow and gives participants the opportunity to soak up the Sydney sights whilst having a go at a fun run.”
