06 Jun Lisa Weightman Sets Her Sights on Flat and Fast Course
“I’ve had some time off running over the past four months to finish building our house and enjoy some time away from training but now I’m excited to get back into running,” said Lisa Weightman.
“Taking part in the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k will be the third event in my preparation to qualify for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 later this year.
“I took part in the Noosa Half Marathon mid-May and finished in 70:04, breaking the course record by 12 minutes. I finished in the top five male and female competitors and won the women’s category – so we are pretty happy with my preparation so far.
“At 40 (years old), with a job and our four-year-old, Pete, I’m just like any other mum juggling lots of demands for my time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I’m lucky to have such a great support team around me including my husband and training partner as well as my family who look after our son when we go out running every night after 6pm.
“I can’t wait to take part in the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k, I love the course and the shorter, faster distance before we get into the longer events later in the year.”
Just one month before the spring classics, the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k provides the perfect opportunity for all runners to check out their preparation for a half marathon or marathon, or to strive for a new PB.
The 5k is perfect for those starting out on their running journey, returning to exercise, or just looking for a great morning run.
Starting at the historic Sydney Rocks area, the 10k course will be a one-lap loop which takes participants through Cockle Bay, Darling Harbour, Barangaroo parklands and The Rocks.
The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 5k also allows participants to take in some of Sydney’s most beautiful sights with a flat, out and back course from the Rocks, along Hickson Rd allowing for stunning views of the Sydney Harbour, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
Both events finish alongside the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
The previous Sydney Harbour 10k events have attracted the best of the best when it comes to Australia’s elite racing fraternity. In addition to Lisa Weightman previous participants include Olympians Marty Dent, Liam Adams and Lara Tamsett who have joined more than 6,000 other participants to take advantage of the flat and fast course and enjoy the stunning scenery on a crisp Sydney morning.
Be sure to celebrate and relax after your event at the post-event recovery area located at the forecourt of the Overseas Passenger Terminal – just past the spectacular harbourside finish line.
If you are taking part, why not go the extra mile and fundraise for the official event charity – OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.
Ronni Kahn, OzHarvest CEO and Founder will be joining runners on the day.
“I am thrilled to be part of the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k. It gives me the opportunity to connect with so many passionate people raising money to support OzHarvest. Every dollar donated helps us to provide two meals to people in need, which is a great reason to start running, or in my case fast walking!”
